Mum update June 17

Spread the love

Once again a Big Thank You to all who have called, emailed and commented your thoughts, prayers and support. It really does help. Visitors yesterday included Florence, Ella, Pete, Mildred, Randy, Blake, Nate, Dorothy, Maia, Aileen and Tony. Most opted to go in to visit with Mum some chose not to and came just to keep me company. I both understand and respect those who decide not to visit with Mum because they want to preserve in their minds ( to quote Nate who shared with me yesterday) the force of nature she was. Shookie has also been a great help. She turned up in the morning to keep me company and returned in the evening with food.

Speaking of food… tons of food has been coming in as well. Other than Shookie… there were also contributions from Mildred, Dorothy, Tony & Aileen. I looked in the fridge this morning and there is a 10 course meal for a party of 12. Thank you for all these delicious contributions which provide delicious choices for meals.

Mum seemed more settled yesterday than the day before. I think being home helps a lot. For the most part she sleeps. I do let her know when a visitor arrives. When I tell her who it is she usually nods. This is not surprising as Mum has always loved company.

Yesterday Mariam, the home care person came in to wash her and shampoo her hair. I could see in her face that she was especially pleased that her hair was being shampooed.

My day usually begins at 6 AM. The first thing I do is check on Mum. If she is asleep I let her be and go about my chores around the house… checking on her every half an hour or so. If she is awake I sit with her and talk to her. I always tell her about all who have sent their wishes and she seems pleased that she is remembered. If I notice any discomfort I give her pain medication. I always sit with her until she falls back to sleep… always telling her that I love her and that she is loved.

In the evenings company arrives. Some choose to visit with Mum and others sit with me outside chatting. Checking on her still occurs even with these chat sessions. My day ends at midnight after an extended visit with Mum.

Keep those stories coming in (check 2 posts down.)
