and just like that it dropped 30 degrees

That was the difference in temperatures between the day before and yesterday in the Detroit area. Plus, it has been raining off and on. It did last night… which is why I’m not perched at the spot in the picture above… which for the past few mornings has been my blogging and coffee spot.  Not that it’s raining now… I’m just trying too avoid a wet butt. Below is the rest of the view I’ve been enjoying these mornings.

So, shooting got underway yesterday. The weather forecast has been threatening rain all weekend and show-runner, Kurt decided that the morning would be best for the shoot as the forecast stated there would be rain in the afternoon.

We headed out to the location… which jjust happened to be Tommy Nugent’s home in the Dearborn Heights area. The scene is from his and Kurt’s TV pilot project titled Campus Martius. Two-thirds of it is already (as they say in da biz) in the can. That was shot a couple of months ago when they were in Fresno in the middle of the Rogue run.

There is 10  more pages of the script to shoot… and some of that is location specific which is why we are shooting here.

I’ve been the DP (director of photography) on this project… however, unlike in Fresno… where I had a small efficient crew… this time, I AM the crew. I miss those guys. Below is a short video I put together for the funding campaign so you can get a sense of what we did in Fresno.

What about this shoot, Marcel? OK… OK… so, the scene is… Tommy Nugent (playing himself) comes home to find his family has been evicted by the bank and are currently on the front lawn… while the bank has turned their house into a bank. I’m not saying any more. (In fact, I may have already said too much) You’ll just have to see it when it comes out.

In the meantime… here are some shots from the shoot.

As you can see it was a bit nippy but at the end of the day we managed to get all we wanted out of the day… shooting wise.

But the day was not done… there was still lunch to go. We descended a few blocks away onto the Nugent family favorite joint… The Bone Yard. Was it good? You betcha.

Then the combination if the cold working day and inertia from lunch hit like a ton of bricks and it was time to head on back. On the way there I had vowed at sometime I would get a picture of “the bridge to nowhere”. (We all sometime feel like we’re on a bridge like that, don’t we?) It was built as a civic pride project to impress visitors when the Super Bowl was played in this city some years ago. It has always amused me even when I first visited the area 7 years ago. All it is really is a suspension bridge structure that holds up a section of freeway.

We had a bit of a location wrap party last night with wine and snacks… even though there is still some minor insert shooting today.

Onward, eh?

Cheers!
