it has been quite the year…

Spread the love

… with the family loss of the “old guard”. This goes for both (Mum and Dad’s) sides of the family. I was informed last night that another (my Dad’s youngest sister) passed on in England. (This is after being informed that there were 2 other losses in December.)  I am glad I chatted with her for a bit via Skype when she visited my cousins in Australia a month and a half ago. Though I wish the connection was better and the conversation was a little longer. Still, it was good to reconnect even if it was for a bit.

A few words about Aunty Theo who just passed. She was the youngest child (the tallest one in the bottom row in the pic) of the Nunis family of Seremban. She was married to Jack (whom she lost last year) and has 3 beautiful daughters. A passionate and avid golfer she often wore her signature black (obviously a Gary Player fan) on the links. She was a spirited individual who had an effusive zest for life.  Talk about savoring moments… she savored life. In very many ways she bucked the system, had an infectious laugh and always managed to crack us up (and make others frown) with her delightfully bawdy sense of humor. Though I am sad that she is gone I will always smile at the memory of her.

I was chatting with a cousin recently and it has become plainly evident that our generation (my cousins and me) have now been effectively drafted to the “front lines”. We also mused that with so many having passed over the last year there must be a humdinger of a party happening somewhere. Though our generation had great experiences and stories from how things were… an era from our lives has now definitely faded.

Still there is a lot more living (for us) to do and perhaps we can make a similar mark to that of the generation that is (fast) passing.
