Da Count – new heros

Spread the love

dacountI held off my count this week for a day in anticipation of a situation that was going to play out in Malaysia – a rally for clean and fair elections organized under the a collective banner BERSIH 2.0.

Last night, I hooked into several information streams on the internet as it played out on the streets. It was not carried live simply because the world media (I’m guessing) did not deem it sexy enough to broadcast it live. Even outlets like Al Jazeera (who has their Asian bureau homed in the Malaysian capital) would only dedicate 1 minute stories in a news summery snippet. Here are some photos from THIS STREAM of what transpired.

It has been reported that despite numerous obstacles set up by the powers that be an estimated 50, 000 people took to the streets.

This morning my status update on Facebook read:

“To all Malaysians of all races, class and beliefs who took to the streets for a clean and fair election process – YOU ARE MY NEW HEROS! It is not the end and remember… nothing worthwhile is ever accomplished at our convenience or comfort!”

I think that speaks as to why I’m counting this.

BTW… if you want to learn more… type in “bersih” (which means ‘clean” in Malay) into Google news.
