not knowing why you started is part of the adventure

Spread the love

It may (or may not) surprise you that many a project I have undertaken only began as a flimsy inkling or notion… at best.

Take blogging as an example. When I began in 2005 I had no idea what I would be blogging about. A lot of my friends did… be it political commentary, their love of books… or even sex blogging. I had no preconceived goal. I just set down to blog… about just anything that struck my fancy that particular morning. (Back in the days when I was blogging almost every day.) My only real goal was to use it as an opportunity to kick start my writing engine for the day. Like everything else the “mechanics” of the form (like practicing the scales on a musical instrument) is paramount in sharpening the skills in any creative form.

As a result, my posts here on this blog are pretty random. Sometimes I delve into perceptions on any number of topics… sometimes they are of a more personal nature… sometimes just to share a picture or information for an upcoming event. Some posts are better than others. Some are creative or attempts at being creative (especially when I was involved in HNT)… and others… just plain boring.

For a while the traffic to my blog was both impressive and steady. Many made it a regular stop in their surfing day. These days hardly anyone comes by. Perhaps social media has overtaken blogging as a means of sharing… or perhaps I myself dropped the ball and momentum by taking any number of blogging breaks… especially over the last few years. Most of my traffic now comes by means of google searches for images… such as posts that include images of shorts, water drops, and the ever popular “no food” sign.

Yet I continue (and will)… if for nothing else but to have a (shared) journal of sorts for my comings and goings. The latest have been the continuing series of “Mom & Pops of Fresno” videos… that now have their own dedicated page. It was an adventure and continues to be… even if only a handful of readers pop by.

I re-read some of my posts from years past and was struck by the journey I’ve taken… especially on the personal front.  Even the documentation of my creative life has been rather surprising. Though sometimes the personal and creative are tightly intertwined. Twists and turns and everything in-between.

It is true… that knowing how you got here and who you are is so often illuminated by where you’ve been and what you’ve done.  So, the journey… and blogging continues. Cheers!
