Just for the record I live mostly in the former. I guess the fact that I’m Mr. Frugal speaks to that. Though I have been known to occupy the latter on the odd occasion.
So, what dictates the choice to go one way or the other? Circumstance mostly. (You can read that as budget if you so desire.) It is a decision I arrived upon when I chose my vocation in the arts.
The “only when needed” stance has served me well. I have blogged in the past how limitations do actually begat creativity. I still stand by that.
And when do I actually go “whole hog” on something? Mostly in the creative realm of my life. (This is by no way relegated to writing, creating theatre, etc… but also encompass cooking, friendship, love… just to name a few.) Guess the point I’m trying to make is that the only limitation to one’s imagination are the self imposed ones. One informs the other.
I continue to enjoy both… which is why I’m counting it today. Because you can live big and spend small.
