… I’ve watched a couple of films that shook me to my very core… in a good way. This stellar fare came by way of Singapore and India respectively. Both created by young directors with a deft touch and elegant storytelling skills.
This makes me happy and inspires me anew. Any time a good story is told well, my heart soars. Yeah, I’m funny like that.
Part of the reason being that these two film makers bucked the current trend toward cgi-laden-with-little-or-no-story projects. They instead decided to tell quiet and fully realized stories with simplicity and sophistication. The fact that they hail from a part of the world that is not usually known for that in the world of cinema is a huge and extra bonus.
Both are slice of life pieces that are rich in substance and detail. If you get the chance… watch these films. It’s just too bad that smaller films such as these have trouble finding a wider market. Perhaps if more people do this it will buck the current trend… hey, it could happen.
Yes, I am enamoured by these films. They inspire me to strive for excellence in my own work. Any time that happens I am thankful. Sometimes we need that external stimulus to keep us going.
