living inside our heads

Spread the love

We all do, dont’t we? Some more than others. I know I do. Yeah, my excuse is that it’s part of my work. Afterall, when I’m creating a play it’s not just the world of the story but the mindset of the characters within it that I live in to flesh out. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

What I’m getting at is that even though I do this I have always kept a foot firmly placed in reality… well, mostly. Look we all spin fantasies, dreams, schemes, etc… we all do. Some of them are solid ideas that could work in the real world. I am constantly amazed at those who choose not to act on them… especially the ones that would bring more opportunities to those individuals with just a little effort. Then when someone else gets a similar idea and fleshes it out there is resentment and accusations that the “idea was stolen.”

Then there is the individual perception of life… at least on how it should be… for everyone. Often you can spot these individuals (the more passive ones) because they wear the expression of being “put upon” or “inconvenienced” on their faces for most of the time. There is another type of individual of similar ilk (the more pro-active ones) who attempts to impose their world on those around them. These are sometimes passed off as those with “control issues”. Then there is “the complainer” who has a constant stream about this or that but who will not lift a finger to change or fix a situation to their idea of how it should be.

I am by no means suggesting we should all be the same… how boring would that be? And let’s face it… we are all guilty at times of acting out with a few or all that is listed above in some measure… I know I am. There is nothing wrong with living in our heads either… though perhaps once in a while we should look down to see if that foot is actually touching the ground.
