Da Count – finding the fortitude

Spread the love

dacountIt has been a humdinger of a week. My time has been split between editing and caring for Mum. I got done with webisode 3 today. (I will try to get it up sometime soon with the super secret password for you to watch it. Check this blog for that info.)

On a more sobering note… Mum has taken another slide. Without going into detail I will just say that it is not looking good. Unlike the “slides” of the past… this current slide seems like the start of a countdown. Though she has always been a stubborn bird and may just surprise us all yet by bouncing back. But to be perfectly honest… I think this time that is unlikely. In fact, I am making inquiries and starting preparations for the inevitable.

So, the last week has been bouncing back and forth between taking care of her needs (every hour or so) and editing like my life depended on it. Well, it does… in a bread and butter sort of way. (The product is good but… never mind.)

Anyway, even though it hasn’t been easy I have barreled through. And that fortitude has come from many sources… but they originated from my parents. Both were very principled about seeing things through. My Mum has kept the program going since Dad passed when I was 12. Giving up was never an option where they were concerned.

I was three badges away from qualifying for King Scout evaluation when I was 16 and would have let it go… but Mum would have none of it. There was only one discussion involved between us and I was back on track… and mighty glad for it. Through the years… no matter how insane the project, she backed me (even though I’m convinced she didn’t quite understand half of what I was doing… neither did I)  just by recognizing (in that Mum sort of way) the fire of passion in my eye.

So, I’m counting this grand gift of fortitude that both my parents bestowed upon me. I know there are more reserves I can pull from (and part of that are a great set of supportive friends) and I hope it holds out until I see this through… and most importantly at this point and time… do well by Mum.
