learning from others

I think we can all collectively agree that we are at a crossroads of change. Forget the campaign sound bytes or arguments over this issue or that. This is a worldwide reality. One that calls for creative solutions in order to not just cope but to get ahead. I watched this short documentary a couple of days ago with interest. It runs about 25 minutes so if you can sneak in the time… do it.

I have never been opposed to learning from others. I make no secret that I borrow ideas from other sources all the time. In my early days of playwriting I learned pretty fast that there were a limited number of plotlines and that the greats (Shakespeare being just one of many) stole from the best… and made it better.

I happen to think this present situation may actually be ripe for opportunity (and profit) in every field. Yes, it will take creativity and effort. Key though would be to rethink (and recalibrate) how things used to be done, go local and consider adapting ideas outside our comfort zone. The other choice is to bitch and whine as we sink deeper into the quicksand.

Yep, what I am suggesting is putting our hubris aside so that creativity can emerge once more. Mind you, it is just a suggestion.
