strangely excited

Spread the love

The days of late have been filled. Part of the time has been taken up with prep for the show I’m doing… or re-doing as the case happens to be. Re-doing in more ways than one. Yesterday I think I finally came up with a beginning and ending that I’m happier with… and serves the purpose as to why I chose to do the show again. (Those details will be revealed at a later time.)

It is not just the show itself that is being prepped… I’m also gearing up to be a performer again. My friends know that I rarely perform simply because it is not one of my favorite things to do. Yet, I am doing it. The difference this time being that I’m strangely excited about doing it.

Perhaps because there is a certain DIY-ness about the circumstances under which I am performing. You see, even though it is being performed during the Rogue (which BTW you should all go to… especially if you are in the area) it is not officially part of the festival… the show is not listed in the Rogue Map… because I decided to embark on this adventure about 3 weeks ago. This sort of makes it a bit of a super secret show… that appeals to me too.

That being said… it will be a challenge to get butts in the seats. So, I will be “working the lines” during the festival. Added to that is the challenge that 2 of the 3 performances will be on the first weekend leaving the final performance for the middle of the week. Not a lot of time to whip up buzz… especially for the first 2. Plus, my performances are rather late in the day… not exactly “prime time”.

Put that all together and we have quite the adventure.

I will end this post with an exciting find… an old “asli” (meaning traditional or indigenous) Malay song that has always been a favorite of mine… and fits within the context of my show. It started life as a lullaby (about the dancing pot cover) and became popular in the 1950’s when it was featured in a movie.
