beer, ale and more – rhizome growing update

Spread the love

Remember a few months ago when I was beside myself that shoots had appeared two months after I had planted ginger in the ground? Well, here they are today.

Quite the family portrait, eh? Yeah, a little worn from the 20 days of triple digit temps we have just been through. Though considering that they’ve managed to survive fairly well. In light of this, (light… get it? Never mind.) I might just move them to a spot that has a little more shade. Or just transplant them into a tub (for portability) so they won’t perish with the winter temps.

Did he say “they”? Why, yes I did. Feast your eyes at the pic below.

I also have tumeric and galangal coming out of the ground. The shoots closest (left) are the tumeric and the 3 to the far end is the galangal. I’m growing these mainly because I cook with them but there are also related health benefits and numerous remedies associated with all these rhizomes. Seriously… google them and add the word “remedy” and see for yourself.

Apart from that the fruit/berries on the curry leaf plant I acquired a few months ago are growing and ripening.

And the kaffir lime plant has shot up another 3 feet. No fruits… but I really don’t expect any.

So, there you have it.
