Da Count – getting the gloves back on

I’ve slowly been reclaiming the garden. For a while there it was simply maintenance that frankly meant “do enough so you don’t get kicked out of the hood”. But my thumbs have been itching for a while to get back to growing stuff. Reclamation is still underway but most of the major clearing away has been accomplished. Of course Winter is not the time to plant… but it is a great season around these parts …

Da Count – garbage & the mantis

It’s been a bit since I’ve done a count. Not from the lack of gratitude… I am thankful everyday for life and all the opportunities it provides. In this case the lack lies in me expressing it here on my blog. In lieu of that I plan to remedy the situation with not one but TWO counts! Let’s begin with garbage. Not that I like garbage… but I do like it when it is cleared …

Da Count – vacationing… and surviving it

Since my postings have been sparse you can assume that I’m on a blog vacation. Sure there is a lot to blog about… but I’m choosing not to because I don’t really feel like it. I’m just allowing myself to take it all in and savoring the moments as they unfold. On a related note… I’m on vacation in my real life as well… and enjoying the heck out of it. Sop, very simply… that …

Da Count – living… in my hood

A friend asked me yesterday what I have been up to because I’ve been somewhat AWOL socially of late. I think my answer was something like “getting stuff done at the homestead”. Then, last night as I slid off into slumber, it struck me that my answer was really incomplete. Yes, I have been doing stuff around the house but to a great extent I have also been re-embracing the neighborhood I live in. I …

Da Count – good week & mutual adventures

I could use this as an excuse for why I haven’t blogged all week… but I shan’t. Truth be told I was “blogging lazy” this week. There I said it. It does happen on occasion. The week actually began last Saturday. I accompanied the lovely Joy to the coast where she was doing a jewelry party at a friend’s place. Trich has been a long time friend whose ancestral home is now my homestead. Hanging …

Da Count – clean kitchen

Every year (for the last 3) I’ve undertaken the task of cleaning the kitchen. Now we are not talking about the normal “wipe it down” type cleaning but a cleaning of a deeper sort. This week I spent 4 days doing it. Each day was dedicated to one corner. I finally got done yesterday. Now it’s clean and things have been somewhat reorganized. The place is a joy to be in again… even feels more …

Da Count – back in 3 saddles again

The last few days has been taken up with getting these beauties running again. My friend, Steve, has lent the much needed extra hands (at least the two that he has) to make this happen. A big thanks to him or I would still be at it today. Replacement parts came up to $55 and there was tons of sweat involved but they are up and running again. There is still one more to go… …

Da Count – my name

Yes, the name my parents gave me at birth and christened me with to hold for the rest of my natural (or unnatural) life. I like it. I’ve grown used to it. It’s a pretty unusual one from whence I come from. It even sounds cool if one were to spell it backward. It’s me. Even the many definitions from the Urban Dictionary gives me pause to smile. What’s not to count?
