runaway jeep

The neighbor’s jeep across the street rolled down the driveway and into the neighbor’s front yard next door. Yep. That is how my morning began. I’m checking out news on the internet and out my door I see the jeep roll past into my neighbor’s yard. And it was moving fast. You can see from the pic above the tire marks on the manicured lawn. The impact gave the bush on the end a trim …

the mess we leave behind

I’ve been in the throes of backing up my data lately. Not only that but I’ve been also organizing data from 5 previous back-ups that were conducted over the last 15 years. The process includes weeding out junk files and duplicates of what I intend to keep. There are moments I wonder if all this work is called for. At the end of the day is any of this stuff of any importance? Not a …

murder in da hood

Apparently there are reports of two dogs prowling the neighborhood killing cats. This has been going on for a week and their actions have been caught on a home security cam. There was a notice all the neighbors got that there have been 9 victims so far. I’m not a big fan of cats only because I’m allergic to them. I don’t hate them but I do keep a safe distance just so my nose …

pith wearing for good measure

Some of you know I’m a fan of the pith helmet. Yes, I own several and am always looking to expand my collection. For instance, of late I’ve been eying the Africa Korp Pith , and the Bombay Bowler… along with the Vietnam Pith… oh, I could go on but this is not a post about me and what “topi” I want to buy next. Case and point: I’ve been stuck on the first paragraph …

the benefits of rising early in Summer

It’s set to hit 112 F today here in the Fresno area. It will probably hover around 111 and 110 over the next 3-4 days. So, conventional wisdom is to wake early, get everything that needs to be done accomplished… especially if it is outside. Then, stay in the cool of air conditioning for the rest of the day. Simple, right? Yet there are those for whom this common sense has not sunk in yet… …

Charlie

Over the weekend I received news that Charlie  (pictured right) had passed the week before. I liked Charlie a lot. He was a colorful fixture around the Tower District… mostly at Tom’s Trains and at the Revue Cafe. It was at the latter place that I socialized with him the most. This is where Charlie would hold court regaling those of us sitting around with numerous stories. Many were often repeated but we didn’t mind. …

so, I’ve been camping out…

… for the last 3 nights. Not (as you might expect) in any sort of wilderness paradise… but on the sofa under the gazebo in my driveway. Romantic and adventurous, eh? You see Chocolate (my dog) has been barking her little head pff at 2 or 3 AM in protest of the neighborhood cat who has taken to lounging in the easy chair located next to said sofa. So, I’ve taken to sleeping on the …

Da Count – jazzhop

I’ve blogged a bit about ArtHop over the years. Last night I attended my first JazzHop which was organized over the last few months by a local musician. The concept is simple… various venues in the mid-town and downtown area features musicians playing and you hop from one to another catching the talent on display. Plus it is a monthly occurance at that! I love it. I love music. I love jazz and here is …

from a different lifetime

This was posted up on my Facebook wall the other day with a simple message that read “Remember this?” It was a partial cast picture from a production of a musical I had co-written titled “Jack: Beyond The Beanstalk”. A fun little ditty that was re-written and remounted several years later restructured and with a stronger script. At the time I was one of 2 playwrights-in-residence at the Fresno Children’s Playhouse. This picture came from …
