sometimes it is not about theatre

This was a link/status update I posted on Facebook today. Click it to read the story. I think Victor’s actions were heroic. I do think he needs to be applauded. OK… now that’s out of the way… My reaction to the story and subsequent reaction to it on Facebook was motivated by the observation that more often than not we create theatre “to honor” such an act to make ourselves feel good. In this case… …

just when I think I’m out…

… they pull me back in again. OK… sort of but not really. This is the cast of “Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)” having a read-through under my gazebo/canopy last night. Last Friday the cast of “The Godling” was rehearsing in the same place. I’m really not involved in any of these productions. Just because I’m not involved in theatre… doesn’t mean I can’t support it in whatever way I can. In this case… rehearsal …

Pretty, eh?

Well, this burst of wildflower bloomage on the side of the homestead is the result of 2 things. 1. The unusual (but welcomed) amount of rain in da Big NO area this season. 2. The fact that I haven’t taken the weedwacker to it in a while. Of course I’m not doing it today either because… well, it’s going to rain again today. In other news… I am retooling my half of “Pho For The …

It’s the people

Now that some of the “how great/how it sucks” punting on Da Big NO has settled a little let me put my 2 cents in. Yeah, we do have some fun/great amenities and events here… but our biggest strength in my humble opinion which hasn’t really been expounded on … are the people. Sure, there is diversity in languages spoken, economic classes, etc… but there is a definite “Fresno charm” with the folk around these …

people of Fresno don’t know…

… how to drive in wet weather. (BTW,,, we even got a tornado warning in the afternoon.)  Just yesterday I was out and about and on 7 occasions drivers gunned through the red lights at traffic intersections. On 2 of those it was a good thing I was practicing “defensive driving” (slowing down to stop at the sight of a yellow light) or I could have been involved in an ugly wreck. It is actually …

another quirk…

… about hang drying laundry is that it takes 2 days to get things dry… especially if there are “heavier” clothes involved. Plus, if there is an overcast sky due to a high fog one has to wait for that to clear for the sun to peek through. How different it is in the Summer when the clothes on the line dries within an hour of being on the line. Yes, it is true… I …

laundry is done and hung…

… on this nice sunny day here in da Big NO. In fact, I may even take the rather huge pile of bedding etc down to the laundromat with the mondo washers and just spend the rest of it fluffing and folding. The only thing about sun drying this time of the year is the “shadow factor” necessitating the constant moving of the drying rack so that the sun catches it. A small price to …

it’s cold tonight.

We’re talking down to the bone cold. It’s slated to be 27F. Look, I understand that most of you in other parts of the country are going to scoff with one of those … “you think that’s cold?” Remember, this is central CA… da Big NO. For here it’s cold. For a bit (earlier in the day) there was actually a “snow watch” in these here parts. That happens like once in 10 or 15 …
